Omerta

"Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man, is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If i die, you are forgiven. If i live, i will kill you." Such is the rule of honour."

Have been reading about the Sicilians and the Mafia a lot lately. so this post should not come as a surprise. The mysterious, enigmatic and fascinating law of Omerta (sacred silence) has kept that fraternity where it is for hundreds if not thousands of years. Violation of this seemingly sacred rule calls for nothing less than the death penalty.
